ABOUT US

Mission

The Linhart Foundation fosters a vibrant, border‑crossing community of artists, cultural workers, and young creators. Through international cooperation, intergenerational dialogue, and support for alternative art forms, we cultivate spaces where creative exchange thrives, new voices emerge, and culture remains a shared, living force.

History

The Linhart Foundation emerged in the late 1980s from a spontaneous collaboration of architects and young visual artists working on the revitalization of the Dolní Počernice chateau park. What began as an informal collective—symbolized by the now‑iconic flying elephant—soon transformed into one of the first officially registered foundations in post‑revolution Czechoslovakia. In the early 1990s, the foundation became a driving force behind the opening of independent cultural spaces in Prague, helping establish legendary venues such as ROXY, NoD, and later the communication and exhibition space Školská 28. Through bold international festivals, cross‑disciplinary projects, and support for alternative art forms, the foundation played a key role in shaping the cultural landscape of the newly democratic country. Its history is defined by creative experimentation, civic engagement, and a commitment to connecting artists, audiences, and cultural innovators across borders and generations.

Located in a quiet courtyard in Prague 1, offers an open environment for cultural dialogue and creative expression. The space supports diverse voices and traditions, encouraging encounters that strengthen mutual understanding and respect.

Since 1998, it has served as a meeting point for artists, thinkers, and communities seeking a place for thoughtful exchange. Its programming is shaped by a commitment to conflict avoidance, constructive dialogue, and the cultivation of shared perspectives across different fields and cultures.
